Carolyn (Connie) is a Respiratory Therapist currently employed at University Medical Center in Las
Vegas, NV. She was born and raised in International Falls, Minnesota; and went to school for
Respiratory in Saint Paul. She took the CRTT exam in 1985 and worked in the Twin Cities area until
moving to Des Moines, Iowa in 1990. Connie worked at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines
for ten years. She learned neonatal respiratory care while there and took the NPS exam. This is also
where she met the guy she would marry; a fellow RT, Dan Small. They became traveling RT’s in 2001
and worked in Baltimore, MD; Washington ,DC,; Flagstaff, AZ; and Las Vegas. Connie was a clinical
instructor for the Resp. program at Columbia Union College while in Washington, DC. She finally took
the RRT exam in 2002. Connie and Dan have been in Las Vegas for five + years now and love it. They
work at UMC.

I have been serving as Director-at-Large during this past year, and would like the opportunity to
serve once again. I have been an RRT for two years, following nearly ten years of teaching. I have a
BA and MA in Spanish, but have no regrets about making my career change and I feel more satisfied
and challenged now as an RRT. I began attending NSRC meetings as a respiratory student and have
continued to enjoy the associations and opportunity to be part of the respiratory community of Las
Vegas. I look forward to help strengthen the influence of respiratory care in Nevada.

Bonnie is currently employed at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, NV as a Registered
Respiratory Therapist. Bonnie has served on the Nevada Society for Respiratory Care as
President-elect in 2003, as President from 2004-2006, and Immediate Past President in 2007. She is
the Website manager for the NSRC. Prior to working at Desert Springs Hospital, Bonnie worked at
Healthsouth ValleyView Hospital. Bonnie also worked with Dr. Mindy Shapiro and Dr. Laura Likar for 5
and 1/2 years doing pulmonary function tests, as a patient advocate, and as office manager. She
moved to Las Vegas from Laramie, Wyoming. While in WY, she was active with the Wyoming Society
for Respiratory Care serving as a Delegate for 2 1/2 years, as Secretary for 2 years which included
being Editor of the WSRC Newsletter. Bonnie has been a member of the AARC since 1991. Bonnie is
currently a member in good standing with the AARC and the NBRC.  She is licensed with the State of
Nevada as a General Supervisor for blood gases.  
Cecilia Degenhart, MAEd, RRT                                                                                                Term ends 2013

Proudly, I am retired military, having served with the USAF for twenty years as an aircraft mechanic,
superintendant, and instructor.  In 2000, I graduated from Gateway Community College in Phoenix
with an AAS in Respiratory Care.  I worked in acute care in Phoenix and then Las Vegas.  While in
Phoenix, I was involved with the AzSRC, helping organize annual conferences.  In addition, I also
completed my Bachelors’ Degrees in Management, Healthcare Management, and Human Resources
Administration.  In late 2010, I completed my Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on
Adult Education and Training.  Currently, I am an instructor for Pima’s Respiratory Care Program.  I
am also an American Heart Association Instructor, teaching BLS, ACLS, and PALS.  When I retired
from the military, I wanted another fulfilling career and not just a job.  I found such a career in
Respiratory.  I am so excited about Respiratory, I enjoy sharing my excitement by teaching others
about the field.  To keep Respiratory exciting and fulfilling, we need strong and effective state
societies to report to our national organization to make our wants and needs known.

Karen is the Director of Clinical Education in the CardioRespiratory Program at the College of
Southern Nevada.  She has practiced as a RT in the LV valley since 1982 and is currently pursuing a
Ph.D. in Higher Education at UNLV.  She was the Chairman of the AARC Student Section from 1982
until it disbanded in 1984.  She has been a member of the NSRC for the majority of the last 25 years,
serving in capacities such as delegate and State meeting chairman.  Her education includes a
Bachelor of Science Biology: Nebraska Wesleyan University, master of Liberal Arts: Johns Hopkins
University, and Associate of Sciente/RT: Mayo Clinic and Rochester Community College.
John Steinmetz, MBA, RRT

John has been in the respiratory care field for over 25 years. A member of the AARC since 1980,
John has held positions as staff therapist, department manager, and director in both hospitals and
medical manufacturers.  John has been a very active leader in Nevada's respiratory care profession,
and has been a member of the Nevada Society for Respiratory Care since 1984. During those 20
years, he has served in all of the Board's positions at least once.      
Director at Large - Dan Bloedorn, BS, RRT-NPS, CPFT                                                        Term Ends 2012

Dan has been a Respiratory Practitioner since 1985. He graduated from Crafton Hills College,
Yucaipa CA. in 1986 and completed BS degree in Heath Science from Old Dominion University in VA
in 2006. Dan has practiced in California, Georgia, Virginia, and Nevada, in both Reno and Las Vegas.
He worked as a Clinical Instructor for Crafton Hills College in CA. and Apollo College in Las Vegas
Dan is currently employed at Sunrise Hospital and Children’s Medical Center in Las Vegas. He is a
member of the Pediatric Neonatal Transport Team and is a relief supervisor. He has been an AARC
member since 1985, continuously since 1993.
Dan Small CRT-NPS      Term ends 2014
Dan served as a substitute Delegate for the year 2009. He will continue as Delegate and thanks you
for your vote of confidence. Dan has served as a Director-at -Large in the past and likes being part
of the NSRC. He has learned a lot from the other members and would like to continue to learn the
Bylaws and have an active role.
Dan has been an RT for over 20 years. He has been an NPS for 15 years. He loves being an RT! He
has worked as a Clinical Instructor and a Preceptor. Dan has worked mostly in PICU/NICU and
Trauma/ER. He is proud to work at UMC and now the new Children’s Hospital of Nevada. Dan serves
on the Cost Containment Committee and the Electronic Health records Committee, as well as
recently becoming active in Shared Governance at UMC. He volunteers for the Medical Reserve
Corps and is involved in Emergency and Disaster Preparedness.
Dan loves Respiratory Care so much that he married an RT, and his 2 children are both RRT’s!!! He is  
happy to call Nevada his home, and hopes to be of service for many years.

Sandra has been a Respiratory Practitioner since 1983. Graduated from Highline Community College,
Midway, WA. She has practiced in Seattle, Houston and now Reno.  Sandra is active with American
Lung Association with CF and Asthma Programs, American Heart Association BCLS & ACLS programs.
Developed annual Education Program; Critical Care 4 Kids that is now in its 10th year. Taught
Respiratory Care at Houston, San Jacinto Comm. Colleges, University Texas- Houston. Have worked
in the clinic setting and in Home Care with a Pediatric Pulmonologist and a Pediatric Developmental
Specialist.                     
Vicki Smith, BA, CRT
I am currently the respiratory therapy program instructor and director at Southwest Career and
Technical Academy. I have been a respiratory therapist since 1972 graduating from Menorah Medical
Center of Inhalation Therapy in Kansas City, Missouri. My experience has been in various medical
institutions such as U of Kansas Medical Center in neonatal, VA Hospitals in Columbia, Missouri, and
Seattle, WA.  I also worked for various other hospitals and for a staffing service.  I moved to Las
Vegas 16 years ago to teach for Clark County School District as an instructor in Rancho HS Medical
Magnet Academy until being asked to design the new respiratory therapy facility, writing the
curriculum, developing and opening the program two years ago.  This program is aligned with the
post secondary respiratory programs in Las Vegas to prepare the students with a head start in
entering the medical field. I am a member of AARC and active previously in the Washington
Respiratory Society as well as a current active participant of the NSRC designing the brochure for
the NSRC conference in August 2011 as well as connecting the program and students with the Las
Vegas community of Respiratory Therapy practitioners.
